A Japanese classic, this green tea mixed with rice was mostly drank as a broth as it was affordable, flavourful and heartwarming. Nowadays the genmaicha combines bancha leaves with puffed and toasted rice and is still very popular in restaurants. Its flavours of toasted whole grains and popcorn are a well-matched counterpart to the slightly sweet vegetal character of the green tea. Low in caffeine, Genmaicha is an excellent tea with breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
